I think that I can say with fair assurance that Adam had plenty of evidences to base his Faith. Enoch was a contemporary with Adam for 303 years. Do you think that the first man on earth would not have given him some hard evidences for him to consider? On top of that, whatever happened during the birth of Enoch's son, Methuselah, was enough evidence as to give him Faith and to turn him around for good from then on — not to mention the many encounters he had with good and bad angels, and even with Elohim Himself. Obviously, he must have given his evidences to his son Methuselah. Now Methuselah and his grandson Noah were not only contemporaries but they were partners in announcing to the world the Message that Enoch had received in Heaven. So you would think that Noah would have received evidences from his grandfather too. But then he got his own evidences with the Flood event. Then after the Flood he even got one more evidence with the rainbow.
[ The rainbow is the evidence given by Elohim for all of us to trust on his Promise that He will never destroy again the earth, as He did before at least on two occasions. The fact that science can explain the rainbow does not make it be any less miraculous, since if the Almighty had wanted the light would go through the droplets of water without any consequential optic effect. Science can only explain and quantify what happens, but not the true reason behind it. ]
Abraham grew since he was born in the house of Noah first and Shem later until he was an adult. Would they have given him evidence enough as to base his Faith in reality versus imaginations? Plenty! Isaac spent some time with Shem too; but most importantly, he had an encounter with Elohim. In the same way, Elohim appeared to Jacob several times and infused the necessary Faith in him. Many great miracles (evidences) took place in Jacob's life, and in the lives of his children, that the collective consciousness of their descendants was impressed deep enough as to sustain their true Hope during their slavery in Egypt, thus not loosing their identity.
[ For more information on this read 'The Book of Jasher', which is much more kosher than all the pamphlets of Paul together:
Joshua 10:13 13 ... is it not written in the Book of Jasher?
2 Samuel 1:18 18 ... it is written in the Book of Jasher. ]
Notwithstanding, since Israel's faith was based more on orally-transmitted evidences than proofs personally collected, their trust on and understanding of the Character of Adonai was far less in comparison with the patriarchs; so their responses were generally poor or negative. A 40-year correction in the desert, living on a day by day evidentiary miracle, was necessary to impress the necessary Faith into the nation so as to have them conquer the Land, albeit partially.
Now, observe how Adonai appeared through an indestructible Burning Bush to Moses. The Almighty knew that the good man had not much of a Faith so He gave him plenty of proofs to build upon the Faith he needed for the Task ahead of him. Like if the Burning Bush was not enough — apparently it was not — Elohim told him to put his staff on the ground to turn it into a snake. This way Moses would see His great and transformative Power. After that He told him to put his hand inside his clothing to give him a momentary and very convincing leprosy. The Faith of Moses was not based on deceiving "assumptions" or "presuppositions." That is why he could act the enormous miracles he did in the midst of the worse circumstances possible. Then Elohim showed his people incomparable wonders, in and out of Egypt, in order to infuse Faith in them. Why do you think all the flashy display of Fire and Trumpets, Thunders and Clouds and a Great Voice lasting the camp with the 10 Commandments? They saw Moses going into a furnace-like mountain. Do you think that they would have thought that he had written the Tablets? Observe that he was accused of many things, but not of that one? Why? They knew! To have Faith is to know, not to imagine something ... or want to believe it. You tell a friend: "I have Faith in you" because you know him, through evidences, not because you imagine him.
Certainly, in the times of the Nevi'im (Prophets), the Jews did not see constant and huge miracles, like their elders had seen before them. But they could still see the cities and wells that they had built, the Land that they had conquered, and the same Torah was still obeyed, or rejected. Without a doubt, many did not see the evidences set in front of their very eyes. But those who considered the signs believed, and so they were blessed because they had used their Elohim-given brain to think, and then make the choice to heed the Voice through the validated Prophets.
On the other hand, how many times The highest One tells His Nation in Tanakh to remember what our fathers had seen in the desert, and after that. What for? To give them Faith, or to increase what they already had.
Even Yeshua in his times made all kinds of validating miracles in agreement with his character, and with the Prophecies in Tanakh. And since he knew that people need proofs to base their Faith upon he said to his disciples,
John 15:26-27
26 When the Helper comes, whom I will send to you from the Father — the Spirit of Truth who proceeds from the Father — He will testify about Me. 27 And you testify also, because you have been with Me from the beginning.
Yeshua is saying that even he and his Message need to be aptly validated through proper witnesses! But a suitable witness can never be a person who has imagined or supposed something. Neither his witness can be drawn from conclusions based on "assumptions" or "presuppositions." Such a witness is invalid and unfruitful for the real necessities of this sinking world.
As a matter of fact, Yeshua himself was validated many times. For example, he was authenticated at the Jordan River during his mikvah with John the Immerser; also at the Transfiguration Mount being offered by two Witnesses from Heaven in accordance to the legal Demands of Torah.
Deuteronomy 19:15
15 A single witness may not testify against another person for any trespass or sin that he commits. A matter may be legally established ONLY on the testimony of two or three witnesses.
Matthew 18:16
16 But if he does not listen, take one or two others along with you, so that every word may be confirmed by the evidence of two or three witnesses.
John 8:17
17 In your Torah it is written that the testimony of two men is true.
Matthew 17:1-3
1 Six days later Yeshua took with him Peter and James and John [ three witnesses ] his brother, and led them up on a high mountain all by themselves. 2 And he was transfigured before them. And his face shone like the sun, and His garments became as white as light. 3 And consider, Moses and Elijah appeared to them, talking with him.
How many proven witnesses did Paul have to back his claim? None! Of course, all Paulinists claim the so-called "witness" of Ananias of Damascus. But the very existence of this man is only "witnessed" by the invalid
self-testimony of Paul. No one else of that period ever talked about Him. Hmm, did the Almighty forget, by any chance, that at least two witnesses were necessary to convince those who fear Him? Why did he "tell" Paul to go to Damascus and see an unknown person, instead of sending one of his disciples, as he did in other occasions? Remember Cornelius? Who was more historically important, Paul or Cornelius? On the other hand, why sending Paul to heathen Damascus and not to Jerusalem? Could He not have told the congregation there that Paul was a "convert" and that they needed to instruct him as he had commanded them to do with every one else? Why Yeshua never predicted to them that he would send a "special messenger for the Gentiles"? Why he never said that this "messenger" would reinterpret everything? Why did he not said that this particular "messenger" was so special that he did not need validation in accordance to Torah, even though he, the Messiah, had needed it?
Rather what we clearly see is that Yeshua told his true disciples to present testimony of what they saw as evidence of his claims and teachings because they had seen it! It was not out of the blue, or out some other unproven belief.
Yeshua's existence and teachings, sir, is not an "assumption" or a required "presupposition" as you so brazenly postulate. It is a proven historical fact — easier to prove even than the existence of Genghis Khan or Attila the Hun.
On the other hand, there is no such connective necessity between Yeshua's existence and his death for our sins. For example, he could have existed and died, but not for our sins; or he could have died like anybody else, and nothing else. One thing does not necessarily prove the other. Your lack of logic is outstanding, my friend. Now, let me put your mind to rest: do not worry I believe that he did died for us; but while I have reasons to believe so, according to your own words you do not. In view of that, you need to study more — and most of all think on what you study — before saying unwise things as you already have. As I said before, with your lack of logic you will not get far trying to "witness" to regular Jewish people. Rather, you will unconsciously confirm them even more in the very beliefs you want to erase from them. In case you do not know, it is due to Paulinists with your traits for which reason Jews look at Christians not only as judgmental, intolerant and domineering people, but also as dogmatic, illogic and — forgive me — idiotized people without any ability to reason. Now, please, understand that my intention while telling this to you is not to offend you, my friend, it is just to shake you out of your lethargy to the reality of your bad approach by giving you a potion of your own pottage. That is why no one living in a house of glass should ever throw rocks at the house of his neighbor. Now, allow me to continue my exposition.
The Jewish Scriptures clearly let us realize that true Faith never hangs upon mere "assumptions," "presuppositions," good wishes and/or any dogmatic, and therefore empty, convictions. True Faith hangs upon provable Reality — a Reality which can be found, collected, analyzed and discerned — if it is that we care about Truth honestly enough as to put careful attention to the clues we all have at hand. That is why:
John 20:29
29 Yeshua said to him, "Because you have seen Me, have you believed? Blessed are those who did not see, but believed."
Contrary to what you might think, Yeshua is not praising "blind belief" — as simplistic Christians/Paulinists gullibly suppose. What he is teaching here is that there is more honor in those who have to make an effort to glean for the evidence that leads to Truth, than those who are given it in their open hands the easy way. Why? Because every effort done in that respect is a true act of worship. The people who see, almost as is the case with the people who only imagine, have it too easy to accrue any higher blessing.
Matthew 7:7
7 Ask, and it will be given to you. Seek, and you will find. Knock, and it will be opened to you.
Dear Stephen, you need to ask, seek and knock for Truth at the door of Heaven, Torah, Tanakh, and even Yeshua, but not Paul or any other man. Then, consider dispassionately the facts and clues that they will give you. It will be then that you will find Truth. But if you do it with man-made "assumptions" or "presuppositions" you will never find it. You will go/continue around blindly trying to guide other blind people, hurting them instead of bringing them to healing — and you loosing the blessing that you blindly seek.
Yeshua said in,
John 8:31-32
32 If you continue in my word, you are truly disciples of mine. 32 Then you will know the Truth, and the Truth will make you Free.
Mind you, he is talking about his word, not Paul's! So, what about when you say, "
A believer for example, begins with the presupposition that Yahuah exists & that He has chosen to communicate. Those initial assumptions lead to the belief that the scriptures are inspired, that Yahushua is the Messiah and that He died in our place and rose from grave.
" Do you call that chain of baseless "
imaginations" "
faith," Stephen?! Amazing! You have a nice boat made of thin air. Where do you think it will take you?
Opposite to you, I know that HaShem exists because He has given billions of evidences of His Intelligence, Power, Majesty and Character all over nature. But that knowledge did not lead me automatically to the next of your dogmas. Yes, I believe all of them but not blindly. I do it without having to commit intellectual suicide and being dishonest with myself or with my Judge. That is why I have no assumed or presupposed dogmas, Stephen, I have a fact-validated Faith. This is very important because a Faith that is intelligently discerned is profitable not only for the believer but for the Kingdom of Heaven, since it will make sense to those who hear him, and who are looking for answers instead of dogmas.
As we saw, in the old times, those that drew valid conclusions upon the many clues and pointers which they had at their disposal — just as we have them today — got Faith into their hearts and were consequentially blessed. But instead of doing that, you take the seemingly comfortable road of "easy believism" in order to arrive to your favorite conclusions. You surely can do it by an act of your free will. But do not expect to arrive safely to the harbor of Truth and genuine Faith because, by doing that, you are just following the same direction of deceitful Paul, who in other words said, "
Believe what I say, because I say so, or otherwise: curse you!" Paul's direction lead him to a place of Great Torment, where he now is. So, my friend, you should not run such a high risk, and rapidly reconsider your dishonest approach.
By the way, nowadays I personally hold in my heart what some people might call a "blind" trust in the Almighty. But, different to what they think, my Trust comes from the indubitable proofs and evidences which my King has shown to me in regards to His Existence and Character throughout the many years of our already long Friendship.
So, as you can see, you and I have no common grounds for a healthy debate — nor even a cohesive conversation — because our "worldviews" are too different. It is as if we would speak totally different and irreconcilable languages. You speak with a self-denied dishonesty, which I cannot tolerate since I was young. (Please, do not get me wrong, I know that you are completely unaware of it, and that in your heart you are honest in the midst of your dishonesty). As for me, never believing that I have the whole truth, I constantly search for one more piece of the eternal Reality which surrounds us all. It is so that I move forward to any new discovery that YHWH might want me to find. While I do not take anything "for granted," you seem to be placidly content sliding over life upon your unproven paradigms. Good "luck," man. Happy landing!
So, after all that vast evidence of your severe lack of discernment in the most elemental aspect of Scriptural understanding, how can you brag that you understand the philosophies of Paul, but I do not?
Consequently, it is in view of all of the above that your unexplained answer with a mere "yes" to my dissertation-demanding question "Is it Heresy to call Paul a Heretic?" lacks any logical basis. The "
you don't understand Paul" answer is a dismantled Christian (Nazarene, whatever) dogmatic litany of no convincing value whatsoever. But it is not my habit to let people easily escape without proving what they boldly posit. So here is the question from a much simpler angle:
Why is it heresy to call Paul a heretic? So, the question is: Why? Now, do not give the empty words of shallow philosophies, as you have done so far. Give me evidential proof
in the Scriptures, just as I have used Jewish Scriptures to back up my position. Do not give me your assumed, and therefore contrived, dogma. Present solid Scriptural evidence — that is, if you can. Otherwise, the case is closed and Paul of Tarsus is found guilty of high heresy and false prophesy.
Leviticus (Wayikra) 18:4-5
4 My Judgments you shall do; and you shall observe
My Ordinances to walk in them. I am YHWH your Elohim.
5 So, you shall observe
My Ordinances and
My Judgments because
the man who accom-
plishes them
will live by them. I am YHWH!
Deuteronomy (Devarim) 4:1-2
1 Now, Israel, listen to the Ordinances and the Judgments which I am teaching you
to perform, in order
that you may live and come and possess the Land which YHWH, the Elohim of your ancestors, is giving you.
2 You shall not add upon the Word which I am commanding you; and
you shall not take away from it, regarding the
Commandments of YHWH your Elohim, with which I am charging you.
Deuteronomy (Devarim) 4:5-6
5 Look, I have taught you the Ordinances and the Judgments
just as YHWH my Elohim did to me, so that
you do them in the midst of the Land which you come to possess over there.
6 So, you shall observe them and do them, because it is Wisdom and Understanding in the sight of the peoples who will hear all the Ordinances, these Ones, and will say: "Surely these great people are a wise and understanding people."
Deuteronomy (Devarim) 5:1
1 Then Moses summoned all Israel and said to them: "Hear, Israel, the Statutes and the Ordinances, which I am speaking today in your ears, so that you may learn them and
observe them carefully.
Deuteronomy (Devarim) 6:1
1 Now, this is the Command-
ment, the Ordinances and the Judgments which YHWH your Elohim has commanded me to teach you, so that
you may do them in the Land where you are going over to possess it,
2 in order that you and your son and your grandson might fear YHWH your Elohim; to keep
all His Ordinances and His Com-
mandments, which I command you, all the days of your life and
so that your days may be prolonged.
Deuteronomy (Devarim) 8:1
1 All the Commandments that I am commanding you today you shall be careful to do,
so that you may live and multiply, and go in and possess the Land which YHWH swore to give to your forefathers.
Psalm (Tehillim) 119:4
4 You have ordained Your Precepts that
we should keep them diligently.
Psalm (Tehillim) 119:34
1 Give me understanding, so that I may observe Your Torah
[Heb. Instruction] and keep it with all my heart.
Do you believe in Yeshua? Then, look what he said:
Matthew (Mattithyahu) 5:17-19
17 Do not think that I came to abolish Torah or the Prophets. I did not come to abolish, but to fulfill.
18 Because I tell you for sure that
until Heaven and earth have passed away, not one Yud
[the smallest letter in the Hebrew alphabet], nor the least stroke
[of a Hebrew letter] — shall pass away from the Torah, until
everything has
[passed away].
19 So, whoever annuls ONE of the least of these Comman-
dments, and teaches others to do the same, shall be called "least" in the Kingdom of Heaven. But whoever keeps and teaches them, he shall be called "great" in the Kingdom of Heaven.
